Autumn Spice!

Latke walks into the kitchen getting ready for World Series Game 1.  Time to rep the Bay.  Sadly, it has been a while since she’s made it to the grocery store. Time to get creative. She peers in the fridge and scrounges the leftovers. Luckily she had her fall game on a few nights earlier and has some tasty leftovers to partake in.  She warms up some basmati rice with mixed vegetables à la Trader Joe’s topped with some Spiced Cider Chicken.  An apple-picking trip over the weekend had left her with a half-gallon of fresh apple cider and a bushel of apples. Warmed on the stove with some sliced apples, fresh orange, cloves, cinnamon sticks and rum it makes quite the delicious autumn treat, an old tradition amongst their High School friends.  Once the cider had been merrily drunk, the drudges of the cider were thrown in a bag with a chicken breast and used as an overnight marinade.  Thrown in a pan with a little olive oil and salt for about 15 minutes, reduce a little of the cider and throw it on top, dinner is served. She needs a vegetable to fully round out the meal. It is slim pickings in the fridge so she decides to couple some of the leftover apples with some beets and goat cheese drizzled with a pear Gorgonzola vinaigrette.  It’s going to be a good night.

Wonton waddles into the kitchen after a long day of work. A whirlwind 2 weeks of family visitors has left her with a plethora of delicacies in the frigidaire. She opens the door and squats down examining the smorgasbord laid out before her. Feeling a little hot and spicy this evening - thank you Eastern Seaboard - she decides to go the Middle Eastern route and gathers her leftover lamb kabob, pickled cabbage, brown fried rice, pita and side spread of hummus, babaganoush, tarama (whipped red caviar) and lebni (yogurt with walnuts and dill). Whilst toasting the pita bread just slightly in the toaster, she warms the rest of her meal in the microwave that sounds like a starving cat and pours herself a healthy glass of OJ. The two minutes are up and dinner is served! Just in time to watch her Giants beat the Rangers. Muahaha...
